Build a Value Case

  • Half day
  • For Executives
  • Online · On site

A half-day workshop that turns one AI idea into a value case your finance team can check. Together we agree today's figures, count every benefit and every cost, agree how results will be credited to AI, and set the criteria to stop. Several workshops can run in sequence, one idea each.

Is this for you?

Who it is for

The owner of an AI idea who needs numbers behind it, ideally joined by a finance partner and the owner of the process the idea would change. One leader can book a workshop alone.

Group size

1 to 4 participants per value case.

Prior knowledge

None required. Bring one AI idea and the data you have on the process it would change.

Core objectives

  1. 01Agree today's figures for cost, cycle time, error rate or revenue, and where they come from
  2. 02Count four types of benefit (cost, speed, quality and revenue) and every cost: building, running, AI usage fees and training
  3. 03Agree up front how much of an improvement will count as the effect of AI
  4. 04Set stop criteria and the first stage of funding
Why it matters

AI business cases often promise savings that nobody can measure afterwards.

The starting point is unclear, half the costs are missing and nobody agreed how results would be credited. Such cases are hard to defend in front of finance, and harder still to track once the project runs.

How it works

BeforeYour idea and data on today's process
  1. 01 What a sound value case contains
  2. 02 Today's figures
  3. 03 Benefits and costs
  4. 04 Risks, stop criteria and funding stages

The workshop moves from the anatomy of a sound value case, to today's figures, to benefits and costs, and ends with risks, stop criteria and funding stages. Before the workshop, you send a short description of the idea and data on the current process.

Deliverables

  • A one-page value case, from today's figures to net value
  • A baseline sheet with data sources
  • A list of assumptions to test, each with an owner
  • Stop criteria and a request for the first funding stage
